What is Austism?

Austism(ASD) Austism Spectrum Disorder is a neurological and developmental disorder that affects how people interact with others which include communication, learning and behavioral patterns.

In this day and age autism is now a very common word used to describe behaviors in children that may learn differently.

Little did I know subconsciously, I started to see and understand Journeigh's landscape of communicating. I was looking through a scope and it was very intriguing. Day in and out, I'd just listen and watch and learn my own daughter's language. As most parents intuitively understand how their children function. My family and I were captivated by how Journeigh would problem solve or gather information in a totally different context.

As Journeigh started to approach pre school age , I was somewhat worried about how school would really be for her with having Down syndrome Pre: dual diagnosis. Thousand of thoughts would cross my mind thinking, how do I correctly find a school that would have patience, compassion, education and creativeness for those whom do not communicate in a verbal manner. (Sleepless nights for sure) at first, but then I would wake up and think to myself we got this!! Let's start making the steps to proceed with finding the best schools available to offer Journeigh with the best experience , I started with hmm... let me ask parents that can give full transparency about how their children have adapted and what were the pros and cons on their path trying to find the right schools . I started the foot work making my visits , asking questions medically, therapeutically and educationally just making simple observations on the information returned . I was drafting everything down to make sure my advocacy was heard vividly for Journeigh.

September 8, 2023 Journeigh was diagnosed with Austism and this is when , I knew I had to step up my efforts on trying to figure out what does this mean.

As of today 11/12/23 due to a long wait list to see the doctor about Journeigh's dual diagnosis . Finally we have five more days to get the full results on what this truly mean for Journeigh.
